Lesson Six

A Letter

1. Dad had gone abroad and would come back half a year later.

2. Today, Lucy wanted to write a letter to her father.

3. Mother was still at work, but Lucy returned home early.

4. She turned on the air conditioner, washed some potatoes, peeled them, and put them in the pot.

5.She looked out the window.

6. “Well,” she thought, “it's time to start writing.” 

7. She took out a stack of paper and a ballpoint pen.

8. “Dear Dad,” Lucy wrote, “We are very sad when you are not here. 

9. You used to tease me every morning while you were shaving.

10. What's more, the lamp at home is broken and we can't fix it.

11. From morning to night, the house is always cold and quiet.” 

12. Right then, Mother came back home.

13.She patted Lucy on the shoulder and asked,”Are you writing to Dad?”

14. “Yes.

15. But I don't write very well,” 

16. Said Lucy, crumpling the paper into a ball.

17. “How about we rewrite it together,”

18. Said Mother as she sat down beside her daughter.

19. Lucy said aloud as she wrote, “Dear Dad….”

20. “We are having a good time,” Mother said as Lucy wrote.

22. When Lucy finished writing this sentence, she thought of their little dog Hibiscy.

23. “The sun is shining.” 

24. “In the sunlight, our Hibiscy is jumping all around,”

25. Said Mother. Lucy smiled. She recorded her mother's words, and then wrote, “At this rate, we can fix the lamp ourselves.”

26.“And we'll go to the cinema next Sunday,”

27. Said Mother. “Oh, great!”

29. Lucy cried.

30. “Dad, we miss you every day.” 

31. Lucy drew a big bunch of flowers at the end of the letter.

6.好了，她想，现在可以开始写信了。

7.她拿出一沓纸，一支圆珠笔。

8.“亲爱的爸爸，”露西写道，“你不在，我们很不开心。

9.以前每天早上你一边刮胡子，一边逗我玩。

10.还有，家里的台灯坏了，我们修不好。

11.从早到晚，家里总是很冷清。”

12.这时，妈妈回来了。

13.她拍拍露西的肩膀，问：“是在给爸爸写信吗？”

14.“是的。

15.可是我写得不好。”

16.露西说着，把纸揉成一团。

17.“要么，我们一起重新写吧！”

18.说着，妈妈在她身旁坐下来。

19.露西边说边写：“亲爱的爸爸……”

20.“我们过得挺好。”

21.妈妈接着露西的话说。

22.露西写完这一句，想到了小狗希比希。

23.写道：“太阳闪闪发光。

24.阳光下，我们的希比希又蹦又跳。”

25.妈妈说露西笑了，她记下妈妈的话，接着写道：“这样，我们就能自己修台灯了。”

26.“还有，下星期天我们去看电影。”

27.妈妈说。

28“啊，太好啦！”

29.露西叫了起来。

30.“爸爸，我们天天想你。”

31.露西在信的结尾，画了一大束鲜花。
