Lesson Five

Lingling's Painting

1. Lingling looked proudly at her painting A Corner of My House.

2. This painting would be judged tomorrow!

3. “Lingling, it's late! Go to bed!”

4. Her dad was urging her again.

5. “Okay! I’ll pick up my paintbrushes and then go to sleep!”

6. Right then, a paintbrush fell down and marred the painting. Lingling burst into tears.

7. “What's wrong, Lingling?”

8. Dad put down the newspaper and asked.

9. “My painting is ruined, and it's too late to paint another one.”

10. Her dad picked up the painting, looked at it carefully, and said, “Don't cry, child.

11. Wouldn't it be great to draw something here?’

12. Lingling thought for a while, picked up the brush, and painted a little spotted puppy in the messed-up place.

13. The little spotted dog squeezed his eyes and lay leisurely on the stairs. The whole picture looked better.

12.玲玲想了想，拿起笔，在弄脏的地方画了一只小花狗。

13.小花狗眯着眼睛，懒洋洋地趴在楼梯上，整张画看上去更好了。

14.玲玲满意地笑了。

15.爸爸看了，高兴地说：“看到了吧，孩子。

16.好多事情并不像我们想象的那么糟糕。

17.只要肯动脑筋，坏事往往能变好事。”
