Lesson Seven

An Excellent Horse

1. One spring evening, my mother took my younger sister's hand, and my father took mine, and we went for a walk in the suburbs.

2. We walked along a small river.

3. The water was a deep green color, and when the breeze blew, it rippled.

4. The willow leaves hanging down on the riverbank brushed over my parents’ hair, making both my sister and I laugh.

5. On one side of the road were fields, lush, green, and lovely, like a soft green blanket.

6. The suburbs in spring are exceptionally beautiful.

7. We enjoyed looking around as we walked, and although we had already gone quite a distance, we were still reluctant to return.

8. But then as we were walking home, my sister begged Mom to carry her. “I'm very tired, Mom. I can't walk any further; please carry me.”

9. Mom shook her head and said: “No, I very tired, too. I can't carry you.”

10. Then my sister turned to Dad.

11. Dad did not reply; instead, he let go of my hand, picked up a long and thin branch from a willow tree by the side of the road, handed it to my sister, and said: "This is an excellent horse. If you can't walk any more, you can ride it home.”

12. My sister happily stepped on the “horse” and hopped forward.

13. When we got home, she was already at the door to greet us. Smiling she said, “I got back long ago!”

一匹出色的马

4.河岸上垂下来的柳叶，拂过妈妈和爸爸的头发，我和妹妹看着都笑了。

5.路的一边是田野，葱葱绿绿的，非常可爱，像一片柔软的绿毯。

6.春天的郊外，景色异常美丽。

7.我们一边看，一边走，路已经走了不少，却还恋恋不舍，不想回去。

8.当我们往回走的时候，妹妹求妈妈抱她：“我很累，走不动了，抱抱我。”

9.妈妈摇摇头，回答说：“不行啊，我也很累，抱不动你了。”

10妹妹转过头求爸爸。

11.爸爸不作声，他松开我的手，从路旁一株柳树下，拾起一根又长又细的枝条，把它递给了妹妹，说：“这是一匹出色的马，你走不动了，就骑着它回家吧。”

12妹妹高兴地跨上“马”，蹦蹦跳跳地奔向前去。

13等我们回到家时，她已经在门口迎接我们，笑着说：“我早回来啦!”
