Lesson Twenty-Two

The Caterpillar

1.A little caterpillar was lying on a leaf, looking around at everything with curiosity:insects of all sizes were singing, jumping, running, and flying...

2.Everything was so lively.

3.It was only the poor little caterpillar who could not sing, run, or fly.

4.It took the caterpillar a tremendous amount of effort to move just a tiny little bit.

5.When it awkwardly climbed from one leaf to another, the caterpillar felt as if he had traveled the whole world.

6.Even so, he was not pessimistic or disappointed. He did not envy the others, either.

7.He knew that everyone had his own place in this world.

8.He was a little caterpillar, and the most important thing for him was to learn how to spin a strong cocoon for himself.

9.The little caterpillar did not hesitate for a moment and worked very hard.

10.He kept spinning until he was covered from head to toe with a warm cocoon.

11."What will happen next?"

13."Everything has its own ways!”

14. the little caterpillar heard a voice answering. “You just have to wait patiently, and then you will see.”

15.When the time came, he woke up and was no longer the clumsy little caterpillar.

16.He dexterously broke free from the cocoon and was surprised to find that he had grown a pair of light wings that were covered with colorful patterns.

17.He waved his wings happily. As light as a feather he flitted up from the leaves.

18.He flew away, gradually disappearing into the blue haze.

15.时辰到了，它清醒了过来，再也不是以前那条笨手笨脚的小毛虫。

17.它愉快地舞动了一下双翅，如绒毛一般，从叶子上飘然而起。

18.它飞啊飞，渐渐地消失在蓝色的雾霭之中。
